Work at McMichaels Gallery has begun

As announced on the Gallery website, regeneration work has just begun. Following my plein air session there last Thursday, I set out to paint a composition that reflected the moments of initiation I experienced there.

I drew a value study for the composition with the aim of a cinematic rendering of the light on the schene. My thinking is that some workers getting their toolsets inside the building would not warant commenorating as a special event otherwise. As a theatrical sequence, that would still be a good one though.

With this painting, I wanted to experiment with wetting the paper to avoid using masking tape and to paint the entire quarter sheet. My aim is to frame the painting using a float-mount method to present it in the upcoming exhibition at IWS Canada.

The result matches my expectations.
